Organiser's Comments

Firstly, I would like to thank those competitors on Blue and Green courses who recycled their maps for later runners and I apologise for the fact that this was necessary. Despite adding additional maps to the start boxes during the event, attendance was still higher than expected. This also gave us a squeeze on the parking spaces for those attending later; this was helped by those making full use of the roundabout and gated access across the road. Thank you to all those affected.

This is the first time we have used this area for a larger event since the opening of the Café facilities, which was very welcomed in the cold wind yesterday. Although cold at times, the weather was better than I imagined when I arrived early at the event during a very heavy rain shower, however this seemed to add to the slippery muddy conditions in places.

As usual for an event of this size, a fair amount of helper assistance is required on the day and I would like to express my thanks to everyone who assisted, especially those braving the cold wind across the Start Lanes and also those who endured ‘wind tunnel’ at the far finish.

Finally, thanks to Simon Starkey for planning good courses in a fast area and Iain Tebbutt for a generally hands free approach to his Controlling. Also special thanks to Peter Hornsby and Ursula Williamson for the trials and tribulations in the map printing over the last week or two.

Lost Property.
A necklace has been reported lost during the event. If anyone found the item, could they please contact the Organiser. Thanks

Blue and Green course maps.
Contact details were taken on the day for those competitors who released their map for recycling. I have emailed those concerned. If you haven’t heard from me or if anyone else gave their map away and would like a replacement, please contact me by email. Thanks.

Planner's Comments

When I first saw the plans for the cycle centre at Hick's Lodge my heart sank. I thought that this was the end of a promising orienteering area. But the new paths have opened the woods up and there are lots more features for us to use in these young woods. The twisty nature of the cycle paths has proved a challenge to map but equally they are a challenge to navigate. A quick look at the routes going up on Routegadget shows an even split between those using the paths and those navigating the straight line. I'm sure the area will continue to develop. Forestry were adding significant bridges, paths and plantings just 3 weeks before the event; a constant challenge to the mapper and planner.

I hope you all enjoyed the event and were sufficiently challenged by the terrain. It was intended to be the antidote to too much Christmas Pudding.
