Event Details

Car Park: Main car park at the end of the entrance road. Car Parking is free, and we are not aware of any height restriction barriers.

Register: Please use the form below by Monday evening to book a map. Please pay, in cash, at the event or by direct transfer into the Clubs bank account.
Load the app in before the event. The map will be published on Maprun site, so you can to download it beforehand.

MapRun: The control sites have no visible controls. Instead the Start, Finish and all control sites are identified by a GPS signal on your phone. The printed map is identical to a regular event. The signal can be received by an app on your phone or smart watch within a few metres of the feature marked on your map.
Advice and assistance will be available for anyone new to MapRun.

App: All participants need a smart phone or watch with the MapRun or MapRunG App. Download App.
GPS Signals: MapRun updates itself at set intervals of time. Usually 20 secs but this is changeable from within the MapRun Menu under Settings. The satellite updates can be affected if you have any overhead covering such as a tree canopies. So sometimes there is no instant reaction when you reach a control and you may need to wait a few seconds to let your phone/watch collect the next cycle of satellite signals.
Navigation: You are strongly recommended to navigate around the courses using the printed paper version of the course which will be available at the start for everyone who prebooked their entry. Because of technicalities using the MapRun course as displayed on the phone is not recommended.

Start: Will be close to the car parking area. Do not tap Go to Start until you are ready to go.

Terrain: Western Park is typical parkland with some wooded areas. We are still in the main growing season and the undergrowth in unmown areas is still high and dense. This is noticeable in the wooded areas and even some of the narrow open and slow running undergrowth areas are reduced to a track where walkers have kept them established. In the wooded areas there are many tracks and paths that are not shown on the map and those that are shown are not necessarily accurate because walkers have created changes. There are a few fences and although they have not been marked as impassable please respect them and ensure you do not damage them.
Other park users: The park is very popular with walkers, many with dogs and you should give them respect and priority. The park also has sports pitches; cricket, football, baseball etc and if any are use, please go round them.

Courses Close: 7.45pm (sunset: 7.45pm)

Courses: The Short course is all within the Park but the Long and Medium courses also goes in to a neighbouring residential and urban street area.
The Short and Medium are suitable for newcomers as well as experienced orienteers.

Safety: A risk assessment has been carried out by the Organiser and all reasonable care has been taken to ensure the safety of competitors. However, participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.
