Leicestershire Primary Schools Orienteering
Beaumanor
Hall
Saturday
9th March 2002
It may have been windy but
at least it didn’t snow as it did last year. Judging by the comments as
children came through the finish everyone really enjoyed themselves and learnt a
lot about orienteering.
Many discovered, the hard
way, about how important it is to orientate the map correctly and to use the map
to navigate between the controls. We try to build up the skills during the
morning and I hope you will get the opportunity to consolidate the skills back
at school. It would be great if you could bring them along to some LEI events,
take them back to Beaumanor for one of the orienteering activity sessions or try
out the permanent courses at Fosse Meadows Country Park or Watermead Country
Park.
I hope I have included
everyone in the results, spelt names correctly, assigned children to the correct
schools and got the times correct. I say this because
some forgot to write their start time on their control card, or forgot to
write their names on the start list, or forgot their school on the control card
and so on. I’ve done my best!
Please remember that
everyone has done well even if you were one of the slower ones. For most of you
orienteering was a new experience and there is a lot to take in. Some of us run
fast, some slowly but for everyone the challenge is navigating accurately.
Completing the course is an achievement for everyone.
Well done to all
participants and thank you to all the parents and teachers who brought you along
– I think you too enjoyed yourselves.
Thank you also to all the Leicestershire Orienteering Club members who came along to help you. Without their support and Darren from Beaumanor, it would not be possible to organise this event.
Lost Property: Navy blue fleece hat and brown leather gloves
Next LEI event: Grace Dieu and Cademan Coalville SK/473180
